About The Event
Join the Siegel & Shuster Society for the first of our annual luncheons celebrating the anniversary of the publication of Action Comics #1, where Superman first appeared. Created here in Cleveland in 1938 by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, two teens from the Glenville neighborhood, Superman—“the champion of the oppressed”—has grown into a worldwide phenomenon.
Last year, Cleveland celebrated its hometown hero when the movie Superman, directed by James Gunn, put the city on the big screen. The Siegel & Shuster Society also unveiled Siegel & Shuster Plaza, with statues of the Man of Steel. It has become a new tourist destination honoring the creators.
We’ll celebrate the work of two of Cleveland’s greatest sons with a live interview with Bill Garvey, President of the Greater Cleveland Film Commission, who will share behind-the-scenes stories about bringing Superman to Cleveland and discuss the city’s growing role as a hub for Hollywood.…
